Verizon will start policing its network for illegally downloaded songs on behalf of the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). They are sending copyright notices to their users accused of illegally downloading music over their network for RIAA. Verizon has traditionally taken a hands off approach when it comes to working with the music industry regarding piracy issues. However, this new letter campaign is an indication that the ISP may no longer look the other way, and may begin taking broader steps to control the flow of content on their network.

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009iTunes raises prices & TunesPro drops theirs
Tuesday, November 17th, 2009When people think about buying music, iTunes typically is where they go to do it. However, recently, iTunes decided to raise their prices for a single song up from .99 cents to a $1.29 a song. As a result, Amazon, Napster, CDUniverse, and others have followed Apple’s example and also raised their prices.
However, a new company, TunesPro, is quickly gaining traction against the behemoths of online music stores with their .19 cent songs and 10% discount for albums.
When I read this, I though it was a typo and investigated the claim myself. Surely, they mean $1.19 a song. Low and behold, there it was. Albums ranged in price from $2.05 to $2.74, with individual songs going for .19 cents each. They claim a library of over 5.5 million DRM-free songs with speedy downloads.
Look out iTunes, I think I’m in love.
