Facebook and other social networking sites are the driving force behind the New Oxford American Dictionary’s recent announcement that “unfriend” is this year’s Word of the Year. According to the 2010 edition, unfriend is used as a verb and it describes removing a person from a friend list on Facebook and other social networking sites.
Hashtag, intexticated, netbook, paywall, and sexting were newly added additons to the 2010 edition of New Oxford American Dictionary.
